Indonesia is mulling over capitalising on its renewable energy potential and raising its share in the energy mix. Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitan, delivered a keynote in BNEF Summit in Bali and held that Indonesia will stand on its commitment to achieve net-zero emissions target by 2060. Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University is investing S$5.7 million to improve solar energy generation as part of the university’s commitment to combating climate change. More than 13,000 new solar photovoltaic (PV) panels will be installed as part of this program on the NTU Smart Campus. This will be added to the University’s current 19,000 solar panels, which were installed in 2015. Saudi Arabia based developer, investor, and operator of power generation and green hydrogen plants, ACWA Power Company, has said that PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN, Indonesia’s state-owned electricity utility, has chosen ACWA Power to develop two floating solar PV projects in Indonesia. ACWA Power said that this marks first foray into Indonesia, as well as the company’s first floating solar PV projects in its portfolio. The Philippines Department of Energy reports that the country’s renewable energy market will soon be fully open to foreign ownership. Officials from the DOE stated that after changes to the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the Renewable Energy Act are completed and signed, the agency wants the sector opened to 100 percent foreign ownership before the end of the month. Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) has said that the country has begun to import renewable energy from Laos through Thailand and Malaysia. The authority held that this is the first such transfer of RE into Singapore. In September 2021, a power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed between Keppel Electric of Singapore and Electricite du Laos (EDL), a state owned entity of Laos.
