ib vogt, an international solar developer, started construction of its large-scale solar project, the 99 MWp Tantangan Solar Power Plant, during a ceremonial event held on August 6, 2025, in South Cotabato (Philippines).
This is one of Mindanao’s key clean energy projects, backed by PHP 4.49 billion (USD 80 million) in green financing from HSBC. It is also one of the first projects to benefit from the joint Development and Construction Facility established by British International Investment (BII) and Pentagreen Capital (Pentagreen), including mezzanine financing. The plant, once completed in 2026, is expected to generate over 150 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power more than 82,000 households.
The company said in a press release, “As ib vogt’s second solar project in Mindanao, Tantangan reflects the company’s long-term goal to the Philippines as a priority market in Asia. With more than 1,000 MWp in active development across the country, ib vogt is investing in both infrastructure and community—creating green jobs, supporting local economic development, and strengthening national energy security. The Tantangan project also aligns with the Philippine government’s renewable energy targets and the region’s drive toward sustainable growth.”
Leadership View
The event brought together key government representatives, landowners, financial partners, and community leaders, underscoring its goal to build a sustainable future for Mindanao.
Some key company leaders shared their views on the project’s commencement, as follows:
“This milestone illustrates our shared determination to accelerate the energy transition in the Philippines,” said David Ludwig, CEO of ib vogt APAC. “We extend our special gratitude to BII, HSBC, and Pentagreen for making this vision possible,” Ludwig added.
British Embassy Manila, Chargé d’Affaires Mike Welch, said, “I am thrilled to see that the new joint financing facility between the UK’s British International Investment and Pentagreen, with ib vogt Singapore will support a 99MWp solar power project in South Cotabato, Mindanao. This will have a positive impact on local communities and businesses, as well as supporting the broader energy transition in the country.”
Rohit Anand, Managing Director and Head of Asia Infrastructure and Climate Direct Investments, said, “We’re proud to support the Tantangan Solar project, which will bring clean electricity to over 82,000 households. This will create new and meaningful opportunities for communities and accelerate the Philippines’ energy transition.”
Beyond energy generation, Tantangan Solar includes programs developed in collaboration with community stakeholders to ensure lasting, inclusive benefits for South Cotabato.
