SingHealth, Singapore’s public healthcare provider, plans to install 300 EV charging points at its facilities by 2028. It has collaborated with state-owned electricity and gas distribution company SP Group for the new decarbonisation initiative.

The first twelve chargers have already been installed at the SingHealth Tower at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Campus. Both visitors and staff at SingHealth Tower can use the new EV chargers. According to local media, these have an output of 7.4 kW. Charging an EV like the BYD Atto 3 for an hour using these chargers would thus add approximately 50 km of range. The cost of charging there is similar to what SP Group charges at Housing Board carparks – SGD 0.654 (EUR 0.45).

SingHealth aims to install more than 80 EV charging points by the end of 2024 in collaboration with SP Group. Ten of the EV charging points the state-owned service providers plan to deploy this year will allow users to fast-charge.

SingHealth will deploy public EV charging points in the following locations by December:

SingHealth Tower Changi General Hospital Campus KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital Campus Sengkang General Hospital Campus National Heart Centre Singapore,  National Cancer Centre Singapore, Singapore, National Eye Centre, Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Car Park (B2),  Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Car Park G, Eunos Polyclinic. The healthcare industry produces nearly 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions and more than 5 million tonnes of waste every year. Thus, SingHealth is exploring various ways, including decarbonization initiatives, to make its campuses more eco-friendly and its practices more sustainable.

Singapore is making its transport sector greener with an ambitious plan. The island nation is banning the sale of diesel cars and taxis from 1 January 2025. It has set a target of deploying 60,000 EV charging points by 2030 as part of a long-term Green Plan. To achieve this goal, state-owned organisations like SingHealth and SP Group, as well as private companies such as CPO Volt, are doing their part.
