Sarawak’s Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, is set to become a voice in global discussions on climate change and renewable energy. Scheduled to participate in two key forums in Poland next week. Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, the incumbent Premier, is a prominent political figure recognized for his dedication to sustainable development and environmental initiatives in Sarawak, a Malaysian state. At the premier, Abang Johari will shed light on Sarawak’s stance and efforts towards energy transition, renewable energy security, decarbonisation, and environmental sustainability.

In a statement released by the Sarawak Premier’s Office on April 18, it was announced that Abang Johari would depart from Britain on April 19, heading to Poland for the forums. The premier’s participation will include speaking engagements as a panel member in sessions such as the “Debate Regions for the Planet,” slated for April 24.

Accompanying Abang Johari are Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and State Deputy Energy and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni. This delegation underscores Sarawak’s commitment to these crucial discussions.

During a three-day transit in Britain, Abang Johari and his team will visit the Drax power plant in Selby, North Yorkshire, on April 21. This visit aims to provide insights into innovative energy solutions and further enhance Sarawak’s understanding of clean energy technologies.

Moreover, on the following day, Abang Johari will witness the signing and exchange of a memorandum of understanding between Sarawak’s SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd and Britain’s Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult in London. This memorandum signifies Sarawak’s aspirations to collaborate with its British counterpart in driving innovations that will revolutionize the capabilities and applications of compound semiconductors.

The engagement of Sarawak’s premier in these forums and activities underscores the state’s proactive approach towards addressing global challenges such as climate change and fostering sustainable development. By sharing Sarawak’s perspective and initiatives on the international stage, Abang Johari aims to not only contribute to the global discourse but also to leverage international partnerships for the benefit of Sarawak’s sustainable future.

In conclusion, Sarawak’s Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, is poised to play a significant role in shaping discussions on climate change and renewable energy at the upcoming forums in Poland. His engagements in Britain further highlight Sarawak’s commitment to seeking innovative solutions and forging international collaborations. Through these efforts, Sarawak aims to position itself as a leader in sustainable development and contribute meaningfully to the global fight against climate change.
