Sunpower Group Limited has announced a new agreement with Jining Energy Development Group, China. The agreement was made through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jiangsu Sunpower Clean Energy Co., Ltd.
According to a company statement, the two companies will work together to promote integrated clean energy systems in the Jining region of China. The projects will include combined heat and power (CHP), solar and wind energy, and energy storage solutions. Some of these projects may also apply artificial intelligence to improve system efficiency.
The announcement is part of both companies’ efforts to support China’s ongoing national targets to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. The statement did not mention specific locations or timelines for construction. The financial impact is expected to be minimal for Sunpower in the 2025 fiscal year.
Other renewable energy initiatives in China have been launched at a smaller scale. One such example is a village-level solar program in Gansu province. The project has installed solar systems on 300 rural homes, each with a 3-kilowatt capacity. These rooftop panels provide basic lighting, water pumping, and small appliance use in off-grid areas.
Another example includes a biomass power unit in Hunan province, which uses local agricultural waste like straw and husks to generate electricity. The facility produces around 2 megawatts of electricity and supplies power to nearby farms and workshops.
In addition, a school in Hebei province has installed a small 20-kilowatt wind turbine that powers its lighting and computers. The turbine was part of a local education department initiative to introduce renewable energy awareness through functional school-based systems.
These projects, though not large, show an increasing application of renewable energy at the community level across various provinces in China.
