In a significant step towards a more sustainable energy future for Malaysia, Majuperak Holdings Bhd (MHB), a subsidiary of Perak State Development Corp (PKNPk), has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SPIC Energy Malaysia Bhd, a subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), one of China’s largest electricity generating companies.
It is a collaborative effort to explore the potential development of ground-mounted and floating solar photovoltaic projects in Perak. It also aims to explore potential joint ventures for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services to potential investors.
This initiative aligns with the 12th Flagship Perak Sejahtera 2030 program, specifically under `Flagship 12: Water Resources and Renewable Energy’. By leveraging the latest technology and sustainable practices, Majuperak and SPIC Energy hope to position Perak as a leader in sustainable development.
The collaboration between Majuperak and SPIC Energy Malaysia shows the confidence in Majuperak’s capabilities and its commitment to sustainable development and renewable energy in Malaysia. The partnership is expected to have a major impact on Malaysia’s green economy goals and contribute to the country’s sustainable economic growth.
Syed Agil Syed Hashim, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Majuperak, said, “ This collaboration will boost Perak’s green technology and contribute to the country’s energy transition objective. The National Energy Transition Roadmap aims to shift Malaysia from a traditional fossil fuel-based economy to a high-value green economy, to achieve 70% renewable energy by 2050.”
Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, the Group Executive Chairman of Majuperak, believes that high-impact projects with sustainable environmental benefits can drive technological innovation and create numerous job and business opportunities in the state. “The state government, through PKNPk and its subsidiary MHB, is actively supporting green technology development initiatives, further empowering Perak’s green technology agenda,” he said.
In February, the state government approved the implementation of floating solar development projects through the Large-Scale Solar scheme, subject to feasibility studies and industry demand. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and sustainable development in Perak.
