Singapore-based digital infrastructure company DayOne Data Centers has signed renewable energy supply agreements with TNB Renewables Sdn. Bhd. (TRe) and TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd. (GenCo), strengthening its clean energy procurement strategy for data centre operations in Malaysia.
The agreements, signed under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), will support the development of approximately 1.5 GWp of solar generation capacity and 2.2 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The projects will include both ground-mounted solar installations and hybrid hydro-floating solar facilities.
Renewable Energy Procurement Through CRESS
The agreements are structured as Bilateral Energy Supply Contracts (BESCs) with TRe and GenCo. They also include the transfer of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), which is expected to help DayOne progress towards its target of sourcing 100 percent renewable energy across its operations by 2030 or earlier.
The company has also committed to reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42 percent from its 2025 baseline.
The latest agreements build upon a CRESS arrangement signed between DayOne and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in June 2025, under which the company secured 500 MW of renewable energy supply over a 21-year period. Combined with the new contracts, DayOne has now secured access to more than 1 GW of renewable energy in Malaysia through its partnership with TNB.
Expanding Presence in Malaysia
DayOne currently operates two hyperscale data centre campuses in Malaysia, located at Nusajaya Tech Park and Kempas Tech Park. The company plans to continue expanding its footprint in the country and expects its cumulative investment commitment in Malaysia to reach RM28 billion by the end of 2026.
Jamie Khoo, Chief Executive Officer of DayOne, said, “As demand for AI and cloud infrastructure accelerates, securing long-term access to renewable energy is critical.”
DayOne develops and operates data centres across Asia-Pacific and Europe.
Malaysia’s Energy Transition Goals
The partnership aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as early as 2050 and increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s installed power capacity to 70 percent by that year.
According to the companies, the agreements place DayOne among the early adopters to move from renewable energy commitments to full contractual execution under the CRESS framework.
