The Philippines ‘Department of Energy has partnered with Mainstream Renewable Power for the development of two onshore wind projects in the Luzon and Visayas regions with a total capacity of 440 megawatts (MW).
To this end, the Department of Energy has finalized a Wind Energy Service Contract with Mainstream Renewable Power. The first venture, the Santa Ana Cagayan Wind Project, is slated to generate 100 MW of power in Cagayan Province. The second project, the Panaon Wind Project, is anticipated to yield 340 MW of power and will be located in Leyte Province.
These projects mark Mainstream’s inaugural fully-owned onshore wind service contracts within the Philippines and are set to operate for a duration of 25 years. Mainstream Renewable Power has been actively engaged in the Philippines since 2017, having previously partnered with Aboitiz Power Corp for a 58 MW onshore wind project as part of the government’s Green Energy Auction Project, expected to commence operations in 2026.
The Department of Energy’s endeavor in fostering renewable energy growth is evident through its issuance of 21 wind energy service contracts to foreign-owned entities. Among these contracts, four are designated for offshore projects, while the remaining 17 are allocated for onshore wind initiatives. This strategic move underscores the Philippines’ commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and reducing reliance on conventional power sources.
The collaboration between Mainstream Renewable Power and the Philippine government clearly shows the nation’s dedication to diversifying its energy portfolio and mitigating environmental impact. Through these ventures, the Philippines aims to bolster its energy security while simultaneously contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
