TotalEnergies ENEOS has started installing a rooftop solar power system at a Samsung Electronics factory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The system will have a capacity of almost 28 megawatt-peak (MWp). It will be installed at the Samsung Electronics HCMC CE Complex. The project is fully funded, installed, and operated by TotalEnergies ENEOS under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
The solar system will use about 45,000 modules. When finished, it is expected to produce more than 40,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity per year. This will supply about 26% of the factory’s annual electricity needs.
The project supports Samsung Electronics’ renewable energy plans. TotalEnergies ENEOS is a joint venture between France’s TotalEnergies and Japan’s ENEOS Holdings. It is based in Singapore and focuses on providing solar energy solutions for businesses across Asia. The company was created in 2022 and aims to build 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity within five years.
Apart from this project, Vietnam is also seeing small renewable energy projects. In the southern province of Long An, a rooftop solar project at an agricultural site has been installed with a capacity of 1.2 MWp. It powers cold storage facilities and processing units for local farmers.
In Binh Dinh province, another 3 MWp rooftop solar system was set up in early 2025 at a seafood processing plant. The plant expects to meet about 35% of its daily energy needs through the solar panels.
In Hanoi, a pilot solar panel project of 0.5 MWp was installed on the rooftops of a public university. The system provides power for laboratories, classrooms, and part of the student housing.
These smaller projects, combined with larger initiatives like Samsung’s new solar installation, show Vietnam’s effort to expand its renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on traditional power.
