Solarvest Holdings Bhd’s subsidiary, Solarvest Energy Sdn Bhd, has secured a deal with Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd to install solar power systems at more than 300 Petronas stations in Malaysia by 2027. Solarvest Energy is a Malaysian renewable energy company.

This partnership signals a stride in Malaysia’s shift towards renewable energy, aligning with the nation’s renewable energy objectives, Solarvest announced.

The initiative underscores a growing commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles within the oil and gas sector, solidifying its pivotal role in Malaysia’s energy transition journey, according to Solarvest.

Commencing in April 2024, the project aims to deploy over 5.4 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar capacity across the designated Petronas stations.

Upon completion in 2027, these solar installations are projected to annually offset approximately 5,035 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, significantly contributing to Malaysia’s carbon reduction goals.

Davis Chong Chun Shiong, Solarvest’s executive director and group CEO, emphasized the potential of solar energy in curbing carbon emissions within the retail fuel sector.

Expressing pride in the partnership with Gentari, Davis highlighted the necessity for the oil and gas industry to address its environmental impact, given its substantial contribution to global energy-related emissions.

Furthermore, Davis emphasized the imperative for businesses across Southeast Asia to embrace renewable energy solutions like solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to bolster sustainability efforts and diminish environmental footprints.

With a surge in demand for renewable energy solutions, Solarvest anticipates substantial growth, not only within Malaysia but also across neighboring nations, leveraging Gentari’s expansive global network to drive the clean energy transition.

The collaboration between Solarvest and Gentari marks a significant milestone in Malaysia’s energy landscape, underscoring the pivotal role of renewable energy in shaping a sustainable future.
