J-Wind Co., Ltd., the wholly owned subsidiary of Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (J-POWER), headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo has completed renovations at the New Tomamae Winvilla Wind Farm located in Tomamae Town, Hokkaido.

The New Tomamae Winvilla Wind Farm started commercial operations on 20 October, 2023. The wind farm located in Tomamae Town, Hokkaido, is upgraded to eight wind turbines with an improved generation performance capable of a 4,300-kW output. It is the first wind-based facility to start operations within the J-Power group and one of the largest in Japan. It is reported that due to this facility replacement project-introducing large equipment-performance will be improved and the most effective use will be made of the wind resources in the area.

With the operations of New Tomamae Winvilla Wind Farm, wind power generation from J-Power has led to an overall output of 766,192 kW, stretching on 29 sites (21 operating, two being renovated, four under construction and two under facility replacement). As per the firm, the nine sites located in the Hokkaido Prefecture have now generated 210,682 kW.

As a part of the Blue Mission 2050 instituted last February 2021, J-Power is moving ahead with the plans to update older equipment and improve on their wind power generation and achieve sustainable development for more carbon-neutral operations.
