Leading solar cell and module manufacturer Solarspace has onboarded Krishan Sharma as the Vice President (VP) to lead its Asia pacific solar business. Sharma was previously at Renesola India. For Solarspace, India is a key market, as it remains one of the largest suppliers of solar cells for module manufacturers in the country.

Sharma, with his extensive experience of over 15 years in the solar space, should have no trouble diving in, thanks to his deep connections with the solar sector. An Engineering graduate with an MBA from IMT Ghaziabad & EPLM from IIM Calcutta, His forte in his previous roles have been new market development, operations, strategy, and business development functions.

“As Solarspace seeks to further expand its business in India & other Asia Pacific countries, we are positive that Krishan has the background and the required business expertise that will enable us to achieve great success,” said Mr Long, CEO, Solarspace. Sharma’s appointment also signals a stronger push in the Asia Pacific markets for Solarspace.

Krishan Sharma added, “I am excited to lead Solarspace on the given responsibilities in the Asia Pacific. In the current scenario, when the global solar demand is rising, it will be challenging to meet the commercial expectations of the customers but I am optimistic to work on the mutual ways out and create a great growth in the region.”

Sharma’s appointment comes at a time when solar manufacturing  is truly taking off in a big way in India, with over 10 GW of module manufacturing capacity in line for commissioning in 2022-23 itself. That opens up the market for cell purchases, and Solarspace dominates that space with its 38 GW global capacity. As manufacturers seek to tie-in long term contracts to build a predictable pipeline of supplies, Sharma is likely to find his hands full negotiating tough contracts and planning for a  future, where module manufacturing capacity is likely to double again by 2025.
