Turfan, in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, opened its first fully liquid-cooled ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station on November 18, 2024. The station is located at the Karez Folk Customs Park and is designed to support the region’s growing EV market.

The station can charge up to ten EVs simultaneously. It includes two 600-kilowatt fully liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging stacks and eight 250-kilowatt fast charging stacks. The charging infrastructure supports a wide range of EV models with voltage capacities between 200 and 1,000 volts, including Tesla, XPeng, and Li Auto vehicles.

The charging speed is designed for efficiency, offering the capability to add “one kilometer of range per second.” This feature allows EV drivers to recharge their vehicles quickly and continue their journeys with minimal delay. The station has a single-charge success rate of up to 99%, ensuring reliability for users.

The project was developed by the State Grid Turfan Power Supply Company as part of its efforts to upgrade EV infrastructure in the region. The company has already established 209 charging stations and 1,093 charging stacks in operation across the area. These initiatives are aimed at addressing range concerns and improving the charging experience for EV owners.

The station’s development supports national goals for energy conservation and emission reduction. By enhancing EV charging infrastructure, Turfan is gearing for a broader transition to cleaner energy in the transportation sector. The introduction of advanced charging technology also encourages greater EV adoption among drivers by reducing charging times and improving accessibility.

This initiative is part of a series of upgrades to meet the increasing demand for EV charging services in Turfan and beyond. The charging station serves as an example of how infrastructure can be adapted to support the shift to sustainable transportation.
