Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has finished putting in the rotor for Unit 1 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion. The rotor is a key part of the generator and weighs about 585 tonnes.
EVN said this part of the work is necessary before they move on to installing other equipment. Different teams were involved, including those in construction, technical monitoring, and electromechanical setup.
Once the rotor is in place, further electromechanical equipment will be installed. This will be followed by system tests and inspections before the unit can begin producing power.
The expansion project at Hoa Binh is located on the Da River in northern Vietnam. It aims to increase electricity production to help meet rising demand. Unit No. 1 is one of two additional turbines being installed. When both units are complete, they will add 480 megawatts (MW) to the plant’s existing capacity.
In addition to this project, other renewable energy developments are underway across Vietnam.
The Quang Tri Province People’s Committee has approved a new small-scale wind project in Gio Linh district with a capacity of 30 MW. This project is being developed by a local enterprise using locally sourced equipment and is expected to be completed by 2026.
In Bac Lieu province, a pilot solar rooftop program has been launched for schools and health clinics. The installations range from 20 to 100 kilowatts (kW) each and will serve public buildings in remote areas. The total capacity planned under this initiative is 1.5 MW.
In Ninh Thuan, the provincial government is overseeing a hybrid solar-plus-battery pilot system in Phuoc Nam commune. The system will include a 500-kW solar array and a 750-kWh battery unit, expected to help reduce diesel generator usage in the area.
